Helen Moen, formerly of Milan and Appleton, MN, died on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, MN at the age of 85.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at 10:30 A.M. at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Tom Opoien officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Helen Evelyn (Finbraaten) Moen was born on June 15, 1920 in Arena Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN to Edwin and Minnie (Hammer) Finbraaten. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith and attended Madison Schools. On September 13, 1942 she was united in marriage to Simon Moen at the Madison Lutheran Parsonage. They farmed in Hantho Township until moving into Milan in 1980. They lived at Apple Ridge Estate in Appleton for 3 years before moving to the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, where she has lived for the for the past 7 months. They also spent over 25 years wintering in Mesa, AZ. She was a member of Borgund Lutheran Church for many years and has been a member of Kviteseid Lutheran since 1980. She enjoyed doing handwork, quilting, making afghans, artwork and cooking.
She is survived by four children: Claire Moen and his wife Sylvia of Appleton, MN, Bruce Moen and his wife Darlene of Willmar, MN, Brad Moen of Appleton, MN and Colleen Rhodes of Clayton, NC; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters: Viola Meeker of Portland, OR and Gladys Bryant of Madison, MN as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Simon in January of this year; and two brothers: Marvin and Harold Finbraaten.
