Helen Nagel, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 86. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo Helen Gilnora (Eide) Nagel was born on October 15, 1922 on a farm near Milan, MN to Sivert and Greta (Baerenwaldt )Eide. She was confirmed November 1, 1936 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Lac qui Parle Village. She graduated from Dawson High School in 1940. She attended teachers training for one year and then taught country school for three years. On October 15, 1944 she was united in marriage to Raymond Nagel at Our Saviors Lutheran Parsonage in Montevideo. They farmed for over 30 years west of Montevideo before moving into Montevideo in 1981. She became a resident of Luther Haven in October of 2001. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and an active member of women's groups. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, fishing and playing games with the grandkids. Helen and Ray had loved dancing in their younger years. Helen's pickles were a favorite of all. She is survived by one daughter, Rita Jans and her husband Harold of Montevideo; three grandchildren: Scott Jans and his wife Angie of Granite Falls, MN, Stephanie Jans of Willmar, MN and Stacy Rodeberg and her husband Kris of Montevideo; and six great-grandchildren: Kylie, Sam and Caleb Jans and Tyler, Brandon and Jesse Rodenberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Raymond in 2003; one daughter, Patty Nagel a brother, Sivert Eide; and two sisters: Margaret Olson and Florence Augeson.
