Helen Quenemoen of Montevideo died on Friday, October 12, 2018 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Burial will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens in rural Montevideo. Visitation with the family will be on Friday, June 14 from 12:30-1:30 PM at the church.
Helen Saterbak Quenemoen was born December 3, 1924 to Carl and Palma (Mikkelson) Saterbak on the family farm near Big Bend where she spent her early years, graduating valedictorian from her Milan class at the age of 15. After completing teacher training at age 17. Helen began a career that she loved, teaching all six grades in various one room schoolhouses in the area and later tutored students in the Title program at Ramsey school. On November 25, 1948 she married Hjalmer (Bud) Quenemoen of Montevideo.
Besides teaching, she was active in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and her church circle. She and Bud enjoyed bowling, golfing and traveling to faraway places including: Central America, Europe, China and the USSR. Her special joy was spending time with family. The last 30 years were spent living in Alexandria enjoying life in the lake country. She’ll be remembered as an avid reader, skillful puzzle solver, wonderful lefse maker, keepsake creator and much loved Gramma.
Survivors include her children: Suzanne (Ted) Lentz, Eugene, OR, Lynn(Wendy), Duluth, MN, Kyle (Tammy), New London, MN; six grandchildren: Sara, Kansas City, KS, Derek, Eugene, OR, Graham, San Francisco,CA, Ian, Syracuse, NY and Kaitlyn and Kamryn, New London, MN; six great grandchildren: Sophia, Gavin, Charlotte, Juliet, Austin and Daevyn; sister, Elna Hanson; and her brother, Donald Saterbak.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bud, and two sisters Aagot Paulson and Melinda Ellingson.
