Evelyn Sederstrom, of Montevideo, died on Monday, April 17, 2006 at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 96.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 22, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Saron Lutheran Church with Rev. Charlie Bunk officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Helen Evelyn Beatrice (Thorkelson) Sederstrom was born on February 23, 1910 to Hagen and Berit (Holien) Thorkelson on their farm near Maynard, MN. She was baptized in March of 1910 and confirmed in November of 1924 at Wang Lutheran Church in rural Maynard, MN. She attended rural schools and attended Granite Falls High School. She later attended Minneapolis Business College. On March 8, 1931 she was united in marriage to Harward Sederstrom in Maynard, MN. They lived and farmed in Leenthrop Township and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1981. She moved into Montevideo a number of years ago and had just recently become a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center. She was a long-time active member of Saron Lutheran Church, where she was the organist for over 25 years and started the choir there after they were married. In later years she started a choir for 8 - 16 year olds, was a youth advisor for the Luther League Convention in Miami in 1960, often sang duets with Gertie Norman and started the Lutheran Daughters of the Reformation (LDR) at Saron Lutheran. She was a member of the Degree of Honor, a homemakers club and the Sons of Norway and she enjoyed music and visiting with people.
She is survived by children: Belva Tjosvold and her husband Roger of Granite Falls, MN; Hagen Sederstrom and his wife Ellen of Maynard, MN; Larry Sederstrom and his wife Judy of Hinkley, MN and Lynn Henderson and her husband Dan of Holmen, WI; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Patty Sederstrom of Maynard, MN; sisters-in-law Loraine Thorkelson and Violet Thorkelson of Granite Falls, MN, Coni Sederstrom as well as by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harward in 1983; a son Bruce in 1994; 6 brothers: Theodore, Glenn, Hagen, Burnett, Endre and Morris Thorkelson; 3 sisters: Mary Thorkelson, Hilda Siverhus and Marion Volstad Christenson as well as by a brother, Olaf, in infancy.
