Helmer Krugerud, 95, died on Thursday, December 31, 1998, at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Sunday, January 3, 1999, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Paul Christopher officiating. Burial will be in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson.
Visitation will be on Saturday afternoon and evening with prayer service at 7:00 pm at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson and at the church for 1 hour prior to the service.
Helmer Orin Krugerud was born April 26, 1903, in Cerro Gordo Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN, to Ole and Marit (Sliper) Krugerud. He was baptized and confirmed at the Lac Qui Parle Lutheran Church, rural Dawson, and attended rural schools in the county.
On September 3, 1930, Helmer was united in marriage to Jennie Elenore Wold by Rev. Onerheim at Madison, MN. To this union, seven children were born. Thiry-seven years of their married life were spent on farms near Dawson and Boyd. They moved into Dawson in 1967. After retiring from farming, Helmer worked at K & W Hardware and Larson Tiling.
After moving from his home, Helmer lived at the Parkview Apartments. In January of 1994, Helmer moved to the Johnson Memorial Home and died there on Thursday, December 31, 1998, at the age of 95 years, 8 months, and 5 days.
Helmer loved music and enjoyed dancing and playing his accordian. He was proud of his family and greatly appreciated the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, no matter how loudly or rowdy the became.
Helmer is survived by his seven children: Wyonne Norby, Appleton; Phyllis (Roger) Anderson, Dawson; Gaylen, Cokato; Stanford (Karen), Dawson; Beverly (Milo) Grams, Waverly; Bethel (Gary) Olson, Waverly; and Verdell (Mary), Minnetonka. 22 grandchildren: Ruth Henkelman; Mary Birhanzl; John Norby; David, Terry, Brian, and Jim Anderson; Lynette Fjerkenstad; Sue Lokken; Jeff, Tim, and Brad Krugerud; Kim Lindblad; Rick Grams; Janell Yager; Robin Gilderhus; Dawn Myer; Scott Olson; Jodi Hartneck; Jennie Schumacher; and Jill and Josie Krugerud; 40 great-grandchildren; sister Olga (Robert) Lee; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jennie in 1972; brothers: Manfred, Omar (in infancy), and Arnold; and sisters: Selma Krugerud and Myrtle (Henry) Klyberg; 2 great-grandchildren: Cole and Chase Grams; son-in-law, Carroll Norby; and brothers-in-law: Melvin Henderson, Edwin Wold, and Harold Wold.
