Henry S. Bourne, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, September 16, 1998 at his home in Montevideo at the age of 90.
Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, September 19, 1998 at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Henry Severt Bourne was born on May 19, 1908 in Montevideo, MN to Oscar and Clara (Lund) Bourne. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. He farmed for a number of years before attending Stones School of Watchmaking in St. Paul from 1938 - 1940. On Dec, 7, 1940 opened Bourne’s Jewelry in Montevideo. On October 28, 1945 he was united in marriage to Joy Paulsrud at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church in Grace Township. He was active as a jeweler until retiring in 1975 and also operated Bourne’s Motel from 1961 - 1975. Following his retirement, he did watch and clock repair in his home until about three years ago. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir for many years. He had been an active member of the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce and it’s council, was a charter member of the Montevideo Lions Club, was a charter member of the Fiesta City Chorus and was a member of the Jewelers Guild. He enjoyed fishing, singing and clock and watch repairing.
He is survived by his wife - Joy; a daughter - Eileen Grosland and her husband Thomas of Grand Rapids, MN; sons - Dale Bourne of Montevideo; Mark Bourne and his wife Marilyn of Dawson, MN and Dean Bourne and his wife Beth of Montevideo; grandchildren - Karen, Kristin, Teresa and David Grosland; Patrick, Nathan, Kelly, Nick and Erin Bourne and Ethan and Brett Sletten; by a brother - Oscar C. Bourne of Montevideo; and by sisters - Violet Cordingley of Watson, MN and Adeline Loberg of Willmar, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by sisters - Anna Huth and Harriet Davidson.
