Herman Becker

Herman Becker, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 93. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, March 25, 2011 at 1:30 P.M. at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Matt Philaya officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Herman Becker was born on August 3, 1917 in Stoneham Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Albert and Helike (Dannen) Becker He was baptized on October 7, 1917 and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on May 19, 1939, both in Clara City, and attended rural schools. On September 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Rosella Grove in Clara City, MN. They farmed the home farm south of Clara City for fourteen years, and while there attended Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City and served on a local school board. In1955 they moved to a farm northwest of Sacred Heart, where he was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and as an usher. They lived and farmed there until moving to Montevideo in 1975. In Montevideo he worked for Orschelin Farm and Home and Data 100 before retiring. In his retirement, he did lawn mowing and snow blowing for ten years. He was currently a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Herman was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home He loved farming, livestock and horses. He is survived by three daughters: Mardell Rand of Granite Falls, MN, Marilynn (and Myron) Partington of Apple Valley, MN and Cheryl (and Don) Knutson of Maynard, MN; seven grandchildren: Curtis (and Jill) Rand, Allan (and Natasha)Rand, Todd Partington, Vickie (and Jim) Loyva, Cristin (and David) DeLong, Justin (and Amber) Knutson and Joshua (and Amy) Knutson; nine great-grandchildren: Dalton, Devan, Kirstyn, Hannah, Ava, Kora, Jents, D.J. and Savannah; two brothers: George and Vernon Becker, both of Clara City, MN; two sisters: Emma Peglow of New Jersey and Cora Heller of Florida; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rosella in 2008; a son-in-law, Dwayne Rand; two infant great-grandsons; two sisters, Martha Schwitters and Jeannette Herrmann; and three brothers, Fred Becker and two younger brothers.
