Herman Koch

Herman Koch, of Montevideo, died on Monday, January 9, 2012 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 97. Memorial services will be conducted on Friday, January 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church. Herman Paul Koch was born on October 5, 1914 in Wheaton, MN to Charles and Lizzie (Paul) Koch. He was baptized and confirmed in Wheaton. He graduated from the West Central Ag School in Morris in 1933 and Moorhead State Teachers College in 1938. He served in the Army Air Corps for 3 � years during World War II. On June 8, 1941, he was united in marriage to Adeline Erickson at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church near Hanley Falls, MN. Following their marriage they lived for short times in Jordan and Shakopee, MN before moving to Montevideo. He worked as a teacher and Insurance Agent before retiring. He was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, where he attended regularly and was proud of the organ fund. He was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club and the Masons. He loved music and singing, including singing in the Gay Nineties Barbershop Quartet and directing the male chorus in Montevideo. He was also an avid golfer. Herman is survived by two children: Dianne Bourne and her husband Gary of Deephaven, MN and David Koch and his wife Kathy of Bloomington, MN; five grandchildren: Kara (Dan) Beck, Kelly (Andrew) Smith, Kim (James) Collins, Kristen Workman and Robert Workman; twelve great-grandchildren: Grace, Richard, Henry, Frank, Adeline, William, Fritz, Matthew, Ben, Emma, Aubrey and Jamison; as well as by a number of nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Adeline in 2008; a brother, William Koch a sister, Laura Johnson, as well as by numerous relatives and friends.
