Hilda Augusta (Olson) Lanes

Hilda Lanes, of Montevideo, died on Sunday February 2, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, February 5, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating.  Burial will be in the Black Oak Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Hilda Augusta (Olson) Lanes was born on April 14, 1910 in Sparta Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Charles W. and Edith (Manthey) Olson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church and graduated from Montevideo High School. On June 12, 1931 she was united in marriage to Thurman Lanes at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  In 1939 they began farming in Sparta Township and farmed until retiring in 1962.  She became a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in 1994.  She was currently a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was active in it’s women’s group, including serving as president.  She had been an active member of Black Oak Lake Lutheran Church for many years including teaching Sunday School and leading choir. She enjoyed quilting and making beautiful quilts for her family, sewing, growing flowers and dancing .

She is survived by two daughters: Edith Ann Jessen and her husband Robert of Bemidji, MN and Patsy Ruth Matsuura and her husband Harold of Hilo, HI; 5 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sisters: Myhra Frengen of Montevideo and Evelyn Stroh of Harlingen, TX; a special niece, Bernetta Heitkamp of Montevideo; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thurman in 1995; a brother, Melvin Olson and a sister, Clara Jurgens.
