Hobert “Buster” Abels died on Monday afternoon, June 4, 2012, at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 83.
Funeral service was at 10:30 AM, Friday, June 8, at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Herbert Rotunda officiating; organist, Florence Gebur accompanied the singing of “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art.” Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.
Visitation was at the church for 1 hour prior to the funeral service.
Hobert Abels was born February 22, 1928, at Sibley, IA, the son of John and Tina (Klaassen) Abels. As a child, he moved with his family to Minneota, MN. He was united in marriage with Lois Kampen on July 25, 1950, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. They lived in Clear Lake, SD, Marietta, MN and then Dawson, MN. Hobert was a farmer and also hauled scrap iron. He has been a resident of the Johnson Memorial Care Center since having a stroke in 1998. Buster was a gentle man and enjoyed a simple life.
He is survived by his sisters-in-law: Mavis Kampen at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson and Viola Koenen of Clara City; nephew, Gerald Abels of Minneota and several other nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Lois on October 13, 1996; brother, Hazen (Dorothy) Abels; sister, Florence (Don) Mincer; and sister-in-law, Vera (Harm) Abels.
