Ida Grau

July 16, 1920 — April 30, 2008

Ida Grau, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 87. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 3, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M., all at the United Methodist Church. Ida Blanche (Wilson) Grau was born on July 16, 1920 in Oelwein, IA to Charles and Wealthy (Patterson) Wilson. She was baptized and confirmed in Iowa and graduated from Waterloo East High School. On April 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Walter Grau in Waterloo, IA. They lived most of their married life in Waterloo, IA, moving to Montevideo MN in 1999. While in Iowa, she had been a member of East Park, St. Andrews and Bethel Presbyterian Churches. Her church activities included being a Sunday School teacher, on Altar Guild, calling list and church women's activities. She also delivered meals on wheels. In Montevideo she was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in circle and women's activities. Ida enjoyed doing handwork and crafts, reading, baking and cooking and making Christmas cards and ornaments each year for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ida's family was the center of her life. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was always willing to lend a hand to those in need. She is survived by a son, Lee Grau and his wife Carol of Montevideo; two grandchildren: Julie (and Jim) Nolte of Storden, MN and Jon (and Kristina) Grau of Chaska, MN; five great-grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Amanda, Andrea and Dylan; a step-brother, Orlyn (and Flora) Alcock of Pueblo, CO; by a number of nieces and nephews as well as by extended family including Nan and Fred Seubert and their family. She was preceded in death by her parent; her step-mother, Jessie Wilson; her husband, Walter in 2000; a grandson, Jeff Grau; four brothers: Royce, Grant, Charles and John Wilson; and by a sister, Zelma Swehla.
