Ida Elsie (Bauermeister) Russell

Montevideo

Ida Russell, 97 of Montevideo and formerly of Winthrop, MN died January 15, 2000 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2000 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Pastor Paul Woolverton officiating.  Burial will be at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday at Lafayette United Methodist Cemetery, Lafayette, MN.

Ida Elsie Russell was born September 30, 1902 in Ridgely Township, Nicollet County, MN the daughter of Charles and Ida (Frohrip) Bauermeister.  She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ridgely Township and confirmed at Fairfax Methodist Church.  Ida graduated from Fairfax High School in 1921 and attended Mankato and St. Cloud State Teachers Colleges.  She was united in marriage with William Russell June 4, 1930 at the Methodist Parsonage in Marshall, MN.  They lived near New Ulm before moving to Winthrop in 1947 and to Montevideo in the late 1970's.  She lived at Brookside Manor in Montevideo for 13 years and had been a resident at Luther Haven Nursing Home the past 41/2 years.  She was a member of the Sibley County Home Council, a 4-H Leader, Sibley County Extension Homemakers, and Brookside Manor Resident Council.  Ida enjoyed gardening, education, quilting, sewing, community service and church leadership.  She was active at her church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, was a member of UMW, WSCS, Lydia Circle and was an MYF Leader.

She is survived by three daughters: Ilene Bussler and her husband Delfert of Winthrop, MN, Lorna Runck and her husband Erv of Lamberton, MN, and Elizabeth Russell of Montevideo, MN; seven grandchildren: Russell Runck, Rochelle Runck, Troy Runck, Barbara Bumgardner,  Brian Bussler, Denise Kalenberg, and Andrea Thompson; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Stade of Eden Valley, MN.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, William May 16, 1978; one grandson, Darren Bussler; five brothers: Louis, Edwin, Ivan, Carl and Benjamin; and two sisters: Lily Fischer and Gladys Schlarb.
