Iola Kostad, of Dawson, died on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson. Rev. Kendall Stelter will officiate and interment will be at Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 5-7:00 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. There will also be visitation for one hour before the services at the church.
Iola (Erickson) Kostad was born December 12, 1925 at Madison, MN the daughter of Edward and Clara (Hanson) Erickson. She graduated from Madison High School in 1944. Iola was united in marriage with Kenneth Kostad October 21, 1945 at Providence Valley Lutheran Church. They made their home in Freeland Township before moving to Maxwell Township. Ken died May 22, 1994. Iola moved into Dawson in 1998 and to Johnson Memorial Home in July. She enjoyed gardening and was an excellent baker and cook.
She is survived by a son Ervin (Janice) Kostad of Dawson; three grandchildren: Tami (Duane) Gabrielson of Boyd, John (Mary) Kostad of Dawson, and Jacquelyn (Michael) Sammons of New London; nine great-grandchildren: Justin, Eric, Megan, Alexis, Dalton, Garret, Rylee, Bennett, and Bo; a brother-in-law, Stanley Kostad; a sister-in-law, Doris Plate; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Kenneth; two nephews: Bradley Kostad and Ron Plate; and in-laws: Leone Kostad, Al (Phyllis) Westby, and Ed Plate.
