Irene Cary, of Watson, died on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 89. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Watson Lutheran Church with Rev. Larry Olson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Irene Lucille (Johnson) Cary was born on January 8, 1920 in Mandt Township of Chippewa Co., MN to John and Clara (Falla) Johnson. She was confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church, attended rural schools and took a high school short course at Appleton High School. On September 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Manfred Olson at the Big Bend Lutheran Parsonage. Following his death in 1949, she was united in marriage to Donald Cary on December 31, 1954 in Montevideo. She lived all her married life in Watson until entering the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo over six years ago. She was a long time member of Watson Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid and Circle and was a member of the Watson Improvement Club. She liked to garden, sew, bake, cook, collect cookie jars and dolls, can, make lefse and flatbread, have coffee on the picnic table and watch the traffic go by and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Donald; a daughter, Diane Myhre of Watertown, SD; two sons: Denny (and Donna) Olson of Watson and Dale (and Janine) Cary of Montevideo; four grandchildren: Amy (and Jim) Schlader; Kim Olson; Michelle (and Bob) Jensen and Becky (and Rich) Kohn; six great grandchildren: Dustin (and wife Marisa); Kristin; Nate; Danielle, Emily and Ashley; three great, great grandchildren: Ian, Leah and Dallas; a sister, Harriet Molden of Montevideo as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Manfred Olson in 1949; a grandson, John Myhre; sisters, Clarice Johnson and Almie Jacobs; twin brothers: Milton and Marvin Johnson; a son-in-law, Dean Myhre and brothers and sisters in law.
