Irene Rud, of Montevideo, died on Monday, August 26, 2013 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 87. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 30, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Jevnaker Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 7 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:45 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Irene June (Jolstad) Rud was born on June 2, 1926 in Kerkhoven, MN to Jens and Helga (Rekstad) Jolstad. She grew up in the Buffalo Lake area and was confirmed at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church. In 1943 she graduated from Montevideo High School On June 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to Leslie Rud at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. She worked for B.J. Oyen in his law office and at First National Bank before taking time to raise her family. She later worked for the American-News for over 28 years before retiring. They lived and farmed in Mandt Township until moving into Montevideo several years ago. She was an active member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church, where she was on the Altar Guild, served as the Superintendent of Sunday School for several years and was active in its women’s groups. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and active in the activities of the Minnesota Valley Antique Power group. She loved to make “Norwegian Goodies”, baking, gardening, dancing and being with and doing things for her family. She loved to travel and enjoyed three trips to Norway to visit relatives.
She is survived by her husband, Leslie; children: Galen (and Ruth) Rud and Janice Running of Montevideo; Delaine Rud of Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers: Donald (and Arlys) Jolstad of St. Paul, MN and Percy (and Carolyn) Jolstad of Colorado Springs, CO as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death buy her parents and three sisters: Mildred Nesler, Evelyn Jerve and Pearl Fuller.
