Irving Flaa died Saturday, November 17, 2012 at the Madison Lutheran Home at the age of 93.

Funeral services was Wednesday, November 21, at 2:00 PM, at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter, rural Dawson, with Pastor Willie Rosin officiating; scripture lessons were Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Isaiah 25:6-9, Psalm 23, Revelation 21:2-7 and Matthew 11:25-30; and organist, Jennifer Rosin accompanied the singing of What A Friend We Have In Jesus, Precious Lord, Take My Hand and Thine Is The Glory. Michelle Bungarden, Aaron Flaa, Nathan Flaa, Kaci Hemiller, Mike Pederson and Scott Pederson were casketbearers and interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was at the church for one hour before the service.

Irving Merle Flaa was born November 15, 1919, the son of Martin and Anna (Estenstad) Flaa in Camp Release Township, Lac Qui Parle County, MN.  He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter.  Irving attended rural school and then farmed until his retirement.  He married Laura Kvaal on March 27, 1943, and to this union, four children were born.

In his early years, Irving enjoyed playing softball and fishing.  In later years, he was on bowling leagues and won several trophies.  Irving had a passion for farming.  He also loved gardening.  His pickup was a common sight at the restaurants where he enjoyed selling his produce.  Irving also enjoyed visiting over a cup of coffee, a good home cooked meal, playing cards, and watching his judge shows and C-Span on TV.  He was able to remain on the farm as long as possible because of the care given to him by his son, Ken.  After a fall, Irving moved from the farm to the Madison Lutheran Home on January 11, 2011, where he resided until his death.

He is survived by his children: Jean (Cliff) Mogard of Dawson and Kenneth Flaa of Dawson; six grandchildren: Scott (Christi) Pederson, Michael (Michelle Bungarden) Pederson, Aaron (Lynette) Flaa, Jodi Flaa, Nathan Flaa (Kaci Hemiller) and Jill Flaa (special friend Joshua Payne); two step-grandchildren: Lori Mogard and Michael (Kate) Mogard; seven great-grandchildren: Jacob Scott Pederson, Annika Pederson, Jacob John Pederson, Vegas Pederson, Hope Flaa, Samantha Flaa, and Abbi Flaa; two step-great-grandchildren: Maisie Mogard and Henry Mogard; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; two sons: Donald Flaa and David Flaa; a brother, James Flaa and a sister, Margaret Bradley.
