Jacob Kranzler

December 11, 1921 — May 6, 2019

Jacob Kranzler, of Montevideo, passed away on May 6th at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 97.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Keith Brustuen will officiate and burial will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens, rural Montevideo.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at the Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7 PM.  Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Jacob John Bernard Kranzler was born on Dec. 11, 1921 in Long Lake, SD to Frederick and Mary (Gugel) Kranzler.  He graduated from Ipswich High School in 1942.  He enlisted in the Navy and served in WWII from 1942-1945.  He then graduated from SD State College in Brookings in 1949 with a degree in Agriculture.

On May 14, 1950 he was united in marriage to Darlene (Lorig) Kranzler at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Marshall, MN.  From this union they had two children, Leslie Kranzler & Nancy Lohn.  He then worked on poultry farms in Marshall MN; Aberdeen SD; Valley City ND and Byron MN before moving to Montevideo in 1961.  Jake worked at Norris Zaiser Dairy & then retired from North Star Dairy in Montevideo.  He spent many years wintering in Apache Junction, AZ, including this past winter.  Jake is a member of the Montevideo VFW, Montevideo American Legion and the local Senior Center. He attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo and Mountain View Luth Church in AZ.

Jake loved to do woodworking, gardening, cooking his German recipes, fishing & camping, playing cards, traveling, dancing & loved his polka music. He loved to visit & find the latest new recipe or kitchen gadget.  In Sept. 2018 he was honored by taking a Vet Honor Flight to Washington DC.

He is survived by a son, Leslie (Pam) Kranzler of Waconia MN & a daughter, Nancy (Jim) Lohn of Belgrade.  Four grandchildren:  Timothy Kranzler, Kristen Kranzler, Michelle Lohn and Matthew (Breanna) Lohn; as well as 2 great-granddaughters, Emmeline Lohn & Annabelle Lohn.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Darlene in 2013; his parents; three brothers and four sisters.

Memorials are preferred to the Honor Flight Twin Cities chapter.
