Memorial service was 10:30 AM, Friday, October 5, 2012, at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson, with Pastor Kendall Stelter and Pastor Barbara Wangsness (First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls) officiating; great-niece, Savannah read some personal memories of aunt, Jackie; soloist, Sue Christopher sang “Jesus Loves Me” and organist, Jeanne Peterson accompanied the singing of “Rock of Ages” and “Great Is Thy Faithfulness;” and her close friends: Donna White, Darlene Colwill, Donna Moulton-Wobeck, Vivian Hovden, Claren Ritter, Dolores Merges, Sheila Skatvold and Audrey Adolphson were honorary urn bearers.  Interment was in Grace Cemetery in Dawson.

Jacquelyn Kay Erickson was born on July 13, 1942, in Dawson, MN, to Ernest and Gladys (Jacobson) Erickson.  She was baptized on September 2, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and was confirmed on October 27, 1957, at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson.  Memorable high school moments include playing clarinet in the band, being awarded Girls State in 1959 and being voted homecoming queen in her graduating year of 1960.  An important family tradition of sharing Sunday dinner together started at her grandparent's home on the Jacobson side.  The hosting of this meal continued at her family home and later at her brother's home.

After high school, she worked at Northwestern Bank in Montevideo from 1961-1967.  In 1968, she transferred to Northwestern Bank in Sioux Falls, SD, where one of her best friends had just moved the year before.  It was in her first efficiency apartment building where she met a number of her life-long friends and began creating a beautiful life in this city that soon became her home.   During her career with Norwest/Wells Fargo Bank, which began as a teller, Jackie became a personal banker and loan officer and was very active in the American Banking Institute (ABI), an education program.  After 42 years, she retired.  Jackie really enjoyed people, as well as keeping busy, and in her post-retirement years, was able to maintain both by working part-time at Hallmark and later at JC Penney.  Over the years, she returned to Dawson for many Sunday dinners.  She never missed a holiday, birthday, anniversary or any other meaningful occasion.  She always remembered the important events in the lives of her friends and family.

Cars were always her pride.  Her interest in cars was especially peaked when she first got her own.  However, her first couple of cars were her Dad's pick and not hers, so according to Jackie "those were ugly."  If her dad had a car he couldn't sell, he'd say, "That'd be a good one for you, Jack."  Later, when she chose her own, she went for the sporty ones.  She kept her vehicles spotless and often used a casual mention of being 'out of something' as an excuse to drive.

Jackie passed away on Friday, September 28, 2012, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD, after more than a year-long journey with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her brother, Ron and wife, Liz Erickson of Dawson;  niece, Terri Erickson of White Rock, BC; nephew, Mike and wife, Karla, great-nephew, Spencer and great-niece, Savannah Erickson, all of Dawson; as well as other extended family.

Jackie was outgoing and truly enjoyed life.  She always had a smile and positive attitude!  Her presence will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to have her as family or friend!

Thank you to all for your uplifting prayers, support, phone calls, visits and cards.
