James "Jim" Eddy, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 86. Memorial services will be conducted on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5:30 - 7:00 P.M. with a prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. James Harlan Eddy was born on July 9, 1923 in Montevideo, MN to Erwin and Mathilda (Harstad) Eddy. He was baptized on March 21, 1925 and confirmed on April 25, 1937 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and attended Montevideo Public Schools. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On October 18, 1942 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Macziewski at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Havelock. He worked for the Montevideo Street Department for 35 years before retiring. In his retirement he sold mini-donuts for many years at different events. He was a life-long resident of Montevideo and spent 22 years wintering in Arizona. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Montevideo. His greatest passion in life was flying - both flying airplanes and making models of airplanes. He had enjoyed fishing and was Santa Claus for many years for the city of Montevideo. He is survived by his wife Evelyn: three children: Harlan Eddy, Sharon Schroeder and Michelle (and Bruce) Johnson, all of Montevideo; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild; a brother, Roger Eddy of Montevideo; a sister, Ethel Clark of Willmar, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great grandson, Ryan Eddy; a brother, Erwin Eddy, Jr. and by a sister, Lucille Enstrom.
