James Erickson, of Montevideo, died Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 80.
Memorial services will be held Friday, July 25, 2003 at at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Michael Briggs will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday with the family from 5-7:00 P.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
James Norman Erickson was born February 7, 1923 at Montevideo, MN the son of Rudy and Sanna (Hendrickson) Erickson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and he attended school in Montevideo. James served in the US Air Force for four years during WW II. He was united in marriage with Darline Messerli February 23, 1946 in Montevideo. He worked for REC for 40 years as a lineman and later as a surveyor. James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the VFW. He enjoyed bowling, softball, car racing, playing cards, and watching sports on TV, especially the Minnesota Twins. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Darline; two children: Tom Erickson and his wife Kathy of Brooklyn Park, MN and Sandi Mooney and her husband Dale of Montevideo, MN; three grandchildren: Amy (Glen Johnson) Lee, Jeanna (Nathan) Schmidt, and Andy (Jeab) Erickson; two great-grandchildren: Morgan and Chase Schmidt; one sister, Dorothy (Greg) Weber of Philip, SD; one sister-in-law, Lucille Erickson of Montevideo, MN; one brother-in-law, Pete Remund of Edina, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Sharon Mooney; one granddaughter, Julia Hadrath; one brother, Vern Erickson; two sisters: Bernice Hawkins and Esther Remund; and one brother-in-law, Cecil Hawkins.
