James Wehrkamp, of Montevideo, died on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Luther Haven Nursing Home the age of 88.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Jevnaker Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
James Fred Wehrkamp was born in Montevideo on June 8 1928 to Fred and Tressa (Feldhake) Wehrkamp. He was baptized at Rosewood Methodist Church. James attended school in Montevideo and then later in Morris at the Agriculture School. He loved farming and always wanted to be a farmer. James married Alice (Erickson) on February 28, 1953. They made their home in rural Montevideo. They had two children, Joel and Peggy. James really didn’t retire from farming until about 3 years ago.
Family remembers James as a person who liked to joke around and tease others. He always tried to have something witty to say to others. He will also be remembered as a good farmer who loved the land and loved animals. When he wasn’t farming he enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing and bowling.
James is survived by his wife, Alice: his daughter Peggy (Mitch) Reynolds of Pipestone, grandchildren: Andy (Coral) Wehrkamp of Montevideo, Nicole (Chris) Mahlum of Sacred Heart, Mason Reynolds of Pipestone and Aaron Reynolds of Pipestone; and two great-grandchildren: Averi and Oliver Wehrkamp.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son Joel in 2003.
