Janell Marie (Stevens) Johnk

Janell Johnk, 35, of Murphy, TX and formerly of Montevideo, MN died May 6, 1998 as the result of an automobile accident in Dallas, TX.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 14, 1998 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Robert Ford  officiated and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M.  There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Thursday.

Janell Marie (Stevens) Johnk was born October 30, 1962 at Montevideo, MN the daughter of Ronald and Joyce (Bosch) Stevens.  She was baptized and confirmed at Rosewood Methodist Church and she graduated from Montevideo Senior High School in 1981.  Janell graduated from Hamline University in St. Paul in 1985.  She then attended the University of MN Minneapolis Campus before  completing her Masters Degree at the St. Paul Campus in 1988.  Janell received her Ph D from the University of Minnesota St. Paul Campus in 1993.  She was united in marriage with Michael Johnk September 3, 1988 at Hamline University in St. Paul.   In the summer 1994 they moved to Dallas, TX, where she worked at Texas A & M as an Extension Plant Pathologist.  She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Epsilon Sorority, American Phytopathological Society, and the First United Methodist Church of Sachse.  Janell was the kind of person who could easily touch other people’s lives.  She thrived on the learning process and strove to make improvements and efficiencies wherever she could.  She loved the beauty and grandeur of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area as well as snorkeling amongst the fish and coral in Maui.

She is survived by her husband, Michael; one daughter, Kayla; her father, Ronald Stevens of Montevideo, MN; two brothers:  Jay Stevens and his wife Elaine of Eagan, MN and Marc Stevens and his wife Janet of Montevideo, MN; one sister,  Joy Kosak and her husband Michael of Olivia, MN; grandparents: Bernard and Ellen Bosch of Clara City, MN and Myrtle Stevens of Windom, MN;  and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Preceding her in death were her mother, Joyce Stevens in March of 1998 and her grandfather, Walter Stevens.
