Jasper Schoep

Jasper Schoep, of Montevideo, died on Friday, September 15, 2000 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 69.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 20, 2000 at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating.  Burial will be in the Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Jasper Schoep was born on December 9, 1930 in Sioux Center, IA to John and Marian (Feekes) Schoep.  He grew up in Iowa and attended school in Rock Valley, IA.  In 1948 he moved with his family to Montevideo, MN.  On September 17, 1953 he entered the US Army, serving at Ft. Campbell, KY until his discharge on Sept. 16, 1955.  On March 10, 1956 he was united in marriage to Darleen Redepenning at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  He farmed for a year before beginning working for the John Deere dealership in Montevideo.  In 1959 they moved to Arizona, where he worked at a dairy and in diesel manufacturing in Phoenix and as a citrus foreman in Yuma.  In 1966 he moved back to MN to help keep the family gravel business open as several of his brothers had military service at the same time.  He helped build the washer at the gravel pit and helped keep it running.  He worked as a bulk truck driver for Cenex in Montevideo for 24 years before retiring in 1995.  After his retirement, he returned to Schoep and Sons to work part-time.  He was a trustee and  member of the United Methodist Church and a member of American Legion Post #59.  He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.

He is survived by his wife, Darleen; one daughter, Kimberli Heller and her husband Tim of Mound, MN; two grandsons: Joshua Bode and Nathan Bode of Mound, MN; nine brothers: Donald (Delores) Schoep of Artesia, CA, Earle (Kathy) Schoep of Montevideo, Marlin (JoAnn) Schoep of Maple Grove, MN, Berdette (Linda) Schoep of Clarkfield, MN, Eugene (Sheryl) Schoep of Montevideo, Arvin (Nancy) Schoep of Hudson, NY, Verlyn (Cindy) Schoep of Cannon Falls, MN, Jay (Sue) Schoep of Montevideo, and Phillip (Robin) Schoep of Montevideo; four sisters: Harriet (LeRoy) Nordby of Nisswa, MN, Judy (Milt) Pennings of Orange City, IA, Violet (Bert) Poppen of Long Prairie, MN, and Faith (Paul) Jara of Apple Valley, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
