Jean Hoover, of Madison, MN, died Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Madison Hospital at the age of 96.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Madison. Pastor Kirk Meseck will officiate.
Visitation will be held for one hour before the service on Thursday.
A graveside service will be held Friday, January 9 at 12:35 PM at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Jean Bernadean Hoover was born Aug. 14, 1918 in Mankato, MN to Louis and Fern (Jones) Wilkinson. She graduated from Mankato High School and went on to graduate from The University of MN and was a member of Phi Beta Phi sorority. On August 25, 1941, she was united in marriage to James Hoover at Mankato, MN. James served in the Army Air Force and t hey later moved to Madison, MN. She was secretary at the Madison Lutheran Home, social worker for both Lac qui Parle county and the school system, and interior decorating manager at Decor Designs. Jean was a very active member of Faith Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for 20 years, president of FLCW, on stewardship and altar guild committees, helped confirmands design and make confirmation stoles, worked at the fair stand, rummage sales, and funerals.
In 2010, Jean was named volunteer of the year. Over the years, she was chairperson of the Norsefest Scandinavian arts fair, meals on wheels driver, Carnegie Library board member, Syttende Mai luncheon chairperson, Neighbor to Neighbor organizer, Madison Lutheran Home volunteer, Girl Scout leader, Boy Scout den mother, Girls State chairperson, golf club bridge chairperson and golf league officer. Jean was a member of VFW Auxiliary and ladies golf league.
She is survived by two children: Jon (Ellen) Hoover and Julie Hoover Brettner; four grandchildren:
Marcus (Elaine), Jacob (Jenni), Mara (fiancé Erik), and Daniel; four great-grandchildren: Kendrick (Bethany), Garric, Madison, and Daniel; four great-great-grandchildren: Greyson ,Elliot, Liam, and Garric II; special friend Don Taylor; and countless other friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, James; a sister, Helen Nelson; and brother-in-law, Ken Nelson.
