Jedd Bates

February 10, 1973 — October 14, 2009

Jedd Bates, of Rosemount, formerly of Dawson, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at the United Hospital in St. Paul, MN., at the age of 36. A Service of Celebration was held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 17, at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Herbert Rotunda of the First Presbyterain Church officiating; a tribute video of pictures and song was played; Pastor Bruce Rodrick read scriptures and shared a prayer; Stan Menning gave a eulogy; Pastor Rotunda's message was titled "I Did All Right"; Jonathan Fondell read the poem "Run, Jedd, Run" which was written by Sharilyn as a HS graduation gift; and organist, Chris Lehne accompanied the singing of "Shall We Gather At The River", "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Children of the Heavenly Father" and "On Our Way Rejoicing." A little boy was born in Seoul, Korea, February 10, 1973. He was probably left by some loving parent who gave up this boy because of poverty. He was brought to Holt Adoption Agency at the age of 2, and named Jo In Nam. He joined Shauna by adoption into the Doug & Sharilyn Bates family in June of 1976, at the age of 3 years, and was then named Jedd JoInNam Bates. He spoke fluent Korean, but quickly learned the English language, in spite of a severe hearing loss. He was sweet, optimistic and very bright. He attended Dawson-Boyd Schools from preschool through the 12th grade, and graduated with honors. He loved to read and sometimes used a flashlight under the blankets when he was supposed to be sleeping. He enjoyed playing the big string bass in high school orchestra. Track was his sport. He liked to run short sprints and relays. His relay team took 3rd place in the state his senior year. The hardware store provided his first job in 7th grade, where he became quite good at solving plumbing, electrical and mechanical problems. He also worked at Midwest Truck and Parts one summer. He attended college at NDSU in Fargo. He loved the electronic stuff that Best Buy offered, sought a job there, and was hired to be in sales at a Best Buy retail store because of his knowledge in Apple computers. After a short while, he applied for a new position as a hardware technician at Best Buy headquarters, he has been employed there for many years. He learned to enjoy baseball by watching it with Grandpa Manny. He learned to fish from Grandpa Gip. His wonderful sense of humor and love of eating was endowed to him by his father. He loved motorcycling, hunting, camping and canoeing. He was hospitalized with a mild heart attack and was in the process of recovery when he died on October 14, 2009, very suddenly, of a massive coronary. He was an organ donor and was able to give better vision to someone, so a bit of him lives on. He enjoyed all his friends and relatives with tenderness, love and sweet sense of humor. We will miss him so much, but are comforted by the knowledge that God would restore him to whole and now walks the golden paths of Heaven with his grandparents and can hear the angels sing...every word and every note. Jedd is survived by his parents, Doug and Sharilyn Bates of Dawson; his sister, Shauna Menning of Eagan; other family and many friends.
