Jerome Bergeson, of Dawson, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 79.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 11, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating. Interment will be in Grace Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 - 7 P.M. at Grace Lutheran Church and for one hour prior to services.
Jerome Noble Bergeson was born on November 18, 1934 in Cerro Gordo Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN to Noble and Josephine (Klyberg) Bergeson. He was baptized and confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church and attended Rural District 6. He served in the Army National Guard. On September 11, 1954 he was united in marriage to Darlene Dahl at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dawson. To this union three children were born: Cathy, Bruce and Connie. He farmed in rural Dawson and owned and operated JNB Trucking. He retired in 1999. Following Darlene’s death in 1998, he was united in marriage to Elaine Nyberg on May 29, 2004. Elaine died this past September. Jerry was a long-time active member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed ushering. He was a Mason and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, going to the lake and especially going to the grandchildren’s sporting events. His greatest joy was spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his three children: Cathy (and Jim) Michels, Bruce (and Diane) Bergeson and Connie (and Terry) Anderson, all of Dawson; nine grandchildren: Eric Michels, Amber (Jeff) Larsen, Darin Michels, Sara (Jason) Ahlgren, Jillian (Jason) Viessman, Colin (fiancee Courtney Huot) Bergeson, Ashley (Andrew) Sandven, Ryan (Rachel) Anderson, and Matthew Anderson; fourteen great grandchildren: Tyten, Daxton, Straton, Adelyn, Bennett, Maddox, Teagan, Khloe, Nash, Ayden, Ava, Morgan, Gavin and Madelyn; step-children: Delaine (Randy) Tuomi of Ham Lake, MN and Doug (Beth) Nyberg of Rogers, MN; four step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; three sisters: Shirley Kittelson of Dawson, Verona (Lloyd) Mork of Rogers, MN, Ruby (Darrell) Benson of Alexandria, MN; one brother, Roger (Cheryl) Bergeson of Dawson; sisters-in-law: Ardis Bergeson of Dawson, Geraldyne (Marv) Turner of Dawson and Joanne (Larris) Nelson of Canby, MN; brother-in-law, Ronald Helgeson of Dawson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lloyd and Louise Dahl; his wives: Darlene in 1998 and Elaine in 2013, a brother, Kenneth Bergeson; a sister, Gracelyn Helgeson; brothers-in-law: Curtis Kittelson and Paul Nelson; and by a nephew, Don Mork.
He will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
