Jesse Carey

June 23, 1926 — July 15, 1994

Jesse Carey, Of Montevideo, died on Friday July 15, 1994 at his home in Montevideo at the age of 68.  Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday July 18 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Montevideo with Fr. Jerry Paulson the celebrant.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening  and with a prayer vigil at 7:00 P.M. Sunday at the Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo.

He was born on June 23, 1926 in Wing, North Dakota to Jesse C. and Maude Carey.  He grew up in the North Dakota area and moved to the Montevideo area with his family when he was 9.  He attended rural schools.  He served in the US Navy during WWII.  He was united in marriage to Iva Sanders on April 25, 1952 in Watertown, SD.  He was later united in marriage to Marcella Schmitz on May 19, 1968 in Watertown, SD.  He was a self-employed trucker until becoming disabled in 1974.  He was a long-time resident of Montevideo, was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, the Disabled American Veterans (DAV); and served for 2 years on the police reserve.  He enjoyed fishing, card playing, tinkering, traveling, talking with friends and company, and loved to eat.

He is survived by his wife - Marcella; Daughters - Sandra Carey of Oregon, Wi.; Vickie (Duane) Schlosser of Alexandria,Mn.; Kathryn (Tom) Schreiber of Coon Rapids,Mn.;   Lorinda Olson and her special friend - Brian Stensrud of Coon Rapids,Mn.; LuCinda (Roger) Ries of Chaska,Mn.; and Jacqualine  Strommer and her special friend Layne Ortloff of Chaska,Mn.;  10 grandchildren;  by brothers - Faye (Wanda) Carey of Dolan Springs, Az.; and Kenneth Carey of Wabasso, Mn.; by sisters - Evelyn (Howard) Eisenman of Brooklet, Ga. and Katherine Orr of Pine River, Mn.; as well as by a number oif nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by brothers - Avon, Phillip, Bruce and Richard Carey; and by sisters - Fern Johnson and Phyllis Hanson.
