Joan Haugland, of Watson, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Watson Lutheran Church. Rev. Donald S. McKee will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 5-7:00 PM at Anderson - TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo and at the church for one hour before the service.
Joan Laura (Rosen) Haugland was born February 15, 1931 in Montevideo, MN, the daughter of Claus and Ruth (Scharf) Rosen. She attended school and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1949. Joan was united in marriage to P. Donald Haugland August 27, 1950 in Montevideo. They made their home on a farm near Watson. She worked at Thompson Drug in Montevideo from 1966 - 1977 and then at MTI from 1977 - 1992. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and watching football. Joan was the secretary for the expansion committee to build Luther Haven. She was very active at Watson Lutheran Church and served on the Cemetery Board for many years. She also enjoyed making and eating lutefisk (despite not being Norwegian), doing stained glass, hardanger, and sewing.
She is survived by her children: Mary (Gene) Simonson of Rochester, MN, Sara (Gary) Tjosaas of Moorhead, MN, John (Cindy) Haugland of Litchfield, MN, and Betsy (Sergio) Balladares of Madison, MN; grandchildren: Matthew, Alyssa, Molly, Nathanial, Amy, Laura, Zach, Rachael, Dillon, Kirsten; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Donald in 2001; two sisters: Nancy and Elaine; and three brothers: George, Jesse, and Gordy.
A special thanks to her helpers on the farm: Jerry Lee, Bob Miller, Robb Miller, Brad Weckwerth, Mike Oie, the David Enevoldsen family, the Lyle Halvorson Family, and the Carl Van Ravenswaay family.
