Joan Arlene (Johnson) Tubbs

Joan Tubbs, of Appleton, MN died on January 25, 2000 at the Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 67.

Funeral services were conducted on Friday, January 28, 2000 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church in Appleton, MN with Rev. Jim Marburger and Rev. Betty Lundeen officiating.

Joan Arlene (Johnson) Tubbs was born on December 16, 1932 in Princeton, IL to Howard and Jeanette (Taylor) Johnson.  She graduated from Manilus High School in 1951 and attended one year at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.  She transferred to Bradley University in Peoria, IL, graduating in 1955 with a B.S. Degree in Home Economics.  That same year she accepted a position as home advisor in Lyon County, Minnesota (Marshall) where she met and was united in marriage to Dean Tubbs on September 26, 1956.  They first resided in Watertown, S.D. where he operated a Texaco Gas Station with his brother.  In 1958 the family moved to Princeton, IL, where Dean sold Lindsay Water Softeners.  In 1964 Joan accepted a job as assistant home advisor in Bureau County, IL (Princeton).  She worked there until March of 1966 when Dean purchased the Water King Water Service in Appleton, MN.  In October of that year the family moved to Appleton, MN,  where they have resided since.  Joan was active in the First Methodist Church, was a 4-H leader, served one term as a school board member, helped start an awareness group to help women in stressful situations, was a foster parent, co-chaired the Red Cross Blood Mobile for 8 years and was office manager of her husband’s self-employed business.  She had been a member of the Princeton NSDAR.

She is survived by her husband Dean; by children - Teri (Gerald) Amborn of New London, WI; Taylor (Nancy) Tubbs of Appleton, MN; and Todd (Lisa) Tubbs of Coates, MN; 6 grandchildren - Lesa, Ashlie, Melanie, Jonathan, Jackson and  Zachary; by her mother - Jeanette Johnson of Appleton, MN; a twin brother - Howard Johnson of Lost Nation, IA; a younger brother - Richard Johnson of Wyanet, IL; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father - Howard A. Johnson and by a son - Tommie Tubbs.
