Jody Gilbertson, of Montevideo, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Tuesday morning, August 15, 2017 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester at the age of 61.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, August 20, 2017 from 5- 7 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.
Jody Marie (Bakke) Gilbertson was born on March 2, 1956 in Austin, MN, the daughter of Robert “Bob” and Jane (Baur) Bakke. She attended grade school in Austin through the 8th grade before moving to Montevideo. In 1974, she graduated from Montevideo High School, and was united in marriage to Timothy Gilbertson on November 23, 1974 at Our Savior’s in Montevideo. Jody continued schooling in Granite Falls, where she received her Legal Secretary Degree. She worked at Norwest (now Minnwest) Bank and for the Montevideo Chamber of Commerce before starting her career as a state employee in November of 1988. Jody then worked as an Official Court Reporter with the Eighth Judicial District chambered in Chippewa County. Despite her diagnosis in 2005, Jody was able to continue working full-time until the last couple weeks of her life.
For Jody, family was number one, and her family meant the world to her. She always made sure to attend every sporting event, dance recital, race, etc., and loved to make every holiday and birthday a big occasion. Jody also enjoyed going to NASCAR races and cheering on Dale Earnhardt, Jr. with her girlfriends, and went to the Daytona 500 almost every year since 2006. Jody will be remembered for her kind-hearted, giving, generous, and fun-loving spirit. She will be dearly missed.
Jody is survived by her husband, Tim; children, Matt (Miranda) Gilbertson and Stacey (Jeremy) Enevoldsen; fur baby, Riley; grandchildren: Parker Gilbertson, Tyler, Abigail, and Levi Enevoldsen; parents, Bob and Jane Bakke; mother-in-law, Glorietta Gilbertson; brother, William (Katherine) Borgio; sisters, Sue (Rick) Brunette and Linda Borgio; sister-in-law, Holly Gilbertson; nephews: Shane (Shelley) Gilbertson, Brett (Peggy) Gilbertson, Drew (Lori) Gilbertson, Tyler, Zach, and Andy; nieces: Crystal (Jeff) Feuerhelm, Kirsten, Johnna, Kim, and Samantha; and many great-nieces and nephews as well as other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Harris Gilbertson; and two brothers-in-law, Tom and Gary Gilbertson.
