Jo was born on September 23, 1949 in Granite Falls, Minnesota and graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1967.  She worked at Beals Optometry and the Montevideo Hospital.

Jo’s love for cars is what brought her together with Roger.  Their first encounter was drag-racing Jo’s GTO with Roger’s RT.  They later married in 1968.

Jo will always be remembered most for two things: her incessive need to give and her amazing creativity and talent.  As a young woman, she helped her parents care for her younger siblings.  Later in life she was an active member of the ambulance crew for 15 years, gave blood routinely, helped in the daily care of her grandchildren, volunteered numerous places including quilting for Lutheran World Relief.  She would clean your house, paint your house, do your laundry, cook you dinner, bake you rolls (from scratch), drive you to the airport or across the country, fly overseas just to babysit, move in with you so you have proper day care, or give you a kidney without much thought and without wanting anything in return.  Her baked beans and special k bars were requested constantly and she would never bat an eye to comply.  Jo made absolutely gorgeous quilts and handed them out like they were candy.  She also baked and decorated beautiful cakes for anyone who asked.  Her remarkable talent for painting could be found on her grand-daughter’s bedroom walls, rocks, signs, furniture, gifts, etc.

Jo loved her sons and her grandchildren.  She constantly went the extra mile to help her sons at the drop of a hat but her favorite place to be was actively playing with her grandkids whether it was shooting rubber band fights with the boys or painting with Claire.

Jo is survived by her husband Roger, sons Thomas (friend Glennis) and Timothy (Wendy) and grandchildren Dexter (Jessica), Jack, Jasper and Claire (Sean) and one great grandchild Jonah.  Siblings Christy (Jace), Danny (Gail), Jon (Brenda), Ronnie, Elaine, and Barry (Julie) and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents George and May Barber, sister in law Pam Barber and brother in law Merlin Jesseritz, mother in law Viola Tweeter, brothers in law Gary and Richard Tweeter and niece Rita Tweeter.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks for the incredible care for Jo to the Memory Care Unit at Brookside in Montevideo.
