John Bergo was born February 5, 1907, in rural Montevideo, the son of Alfred and Emilie (Nordrum) Bergo. He was baptized and confirmed in Montevideo. He was presently a member of Grace Lutheran Chuch in Dawson.
John and Agnes Lockrem were married July 14, 1928, in a church parsonage at Underwood, ND. They lived in Riverdale, ND, where John worked as a plumbing and heating supervisor for the Army Corps of Engineers. After retirement, they moved to Minot, ND, and then to Dawson in 1978. They wintered in Florida, Texas, or Arizona for over 20 years . John and Agnes recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversay.
John passed away on Sunday, July 26, 1998, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 21 days.
John is survived by his wife, Agnes of Dawson; children: James Bergo and wife, Kaye, of Minot, ND, Dennis Bergo and wife, Linda, of Seeley Lake, Montana, and Marlene Lee and husband, Bob, of Dawson; 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 6 brothers and 3 sisters; and grandson, Tim Lee.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 1998, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Pastors Kendall Stelter and Paul Christopher officiating. Scriptures used for the message were Psalm 121 and John 14:1-4. Deb Lewis was the organist and accompanist. The congregational hymns were "Lift High the Cross", "Beautiful Savior", and "How Great Thou Art." Pastor Paul Christopher sang "Jesus Loves Me" and Pastor Paul and Sue Christopher sang "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" as special music. The casketbearers were Steve Ruzich, John Lee, Dan Lee, Loren Bergo, Paul Bergo, Eldon Kratzke, & Richard Froiland. Interment was in the Grace Lutheran Cemetery in Dawson.
