John Hoaas

March 20, 1925 — November 16, 2012

John Hoaas, of Montevideo, died on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Veterans Home in St. Cloud, MN at the age of 87.  Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Johns Lutheran Church in rural Montevideo with Rev. Ronald Hobbie officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.

John Oluf Hoaas was born on March 20, 1925 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa County, MN to Ole and Clara (Struxness) Hoaas.  He was baptized and confirmed at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan and graduated from Appleton High School in 1943.  He served in the U S Army during  World War II.  On September 18, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joan Moehring at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  To this union were born two children, Sharon and David.  Following her death in 1989, he was united in marriage to Delores Johnson on May 25, 1991 at St. Johns Lutheran.  John farmed, worked at Gladies Ballroom, Johnson Furniture Store, owned and operated Monte Motor Sales, worked for Ree Motors and sold real estate for Kuhlmann-Smith Realty.  He was a long-time member of St. Johns Lutheran Church and was a member of the Montevideo American Legion.  He enjoyed spending time at Fish Hook Lake near Park Rapids and loved to be in the kitchen baking, making donuts and making lefse.

He is survived by his wife, Delores: a daughter, Sharon (and Curtis) Johnsrud of Dawson, MN; a son, David Hoaas of Shreveport, LA; three grandchildren: Erica Johnsrud, Zachary Johnson and Victoria Johnson; a brother, Oscar “Ike” Hoaas of Montevideo; four sisters: Gladys Wagner of Superior, WI, Florence Barnes of Minneapolis, MN. Della Schneider of Montevideo and Helen Rear of Montevideo, as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Joan in 1989 and sisters: Lillian Gjerset, Olga Torgerson, Alice Molden, and Clarice Harlow and by a sister, Grace in infancy.
