John Arnold Olson

John Olson, formerly of Montevideo, died Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at his daughter’s home in Aberdeen, SD at the age of 79.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Paul Woolverton will officiate and burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

John Arnold Olson was born May 10, 1926 at Franklin, MN the son of Sander and Mabel (Hanson) Olson.  He attended rural school.  They to the Montevideo area and he worked at Swift’s.  John served in the US Navy from May 6, 1944 until his discharge June 3, 1946.  He went back to work at Swift’s and was united in marriage with Delores Welty on August 20, 1949 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  They lived and farmed in the Montevideo area as well as owned and operated J. and Dee’s.  In the early 1960's they moved to a farm near Dawson, moving back to Montevideo in the mid 1980's.  He moved to Aberdeen, SD in 2000.  John was a member of the VFW and the American Legion in Montevideo.

He is survived by one daughter, Anita Anderson and her husband Hollis of Aberdeen, SD; two grandchildren: Stacy Anderson - Baadte and her husband Tim of Aberdeen, SD and Dawn Anderson of Madison, WI; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Joshua Anderson of Aberdeen, SD; one brother, Richard Olson and his wife Delores of Montevideo, MN; one sister, Dorothy Wik and her husband Roger of Watson, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Delores; one brother, Floyd Olson; and one sister, Marlys Sandberg.
