John William Schulz

August 26, 1919 — April 17, 2002

Montevideo

John Schulz, of rural Montevideo, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at the United Hospital in St. Paul at the age of 82.

Memorial services will be conducted on Monday, April 22, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Interment will be in the Sunset memorial Cemetery.  Friends are encouraged to visit with the family on Sunday afternoon from 3 - 5 PM at the family home located at 1070 90th St. SW between Montevideo and Watson.  Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of  arrangements.

John William Schulz  was born August 26, 1919 in Huron, South Dakota to F.W. and Elsie (Lattstrom) Schulz.  He graduated from Huron High School, attended Huron College and the School of Mines in Rapid City, S.D. prior to serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII.  After his military service, he received his Bachelor’s degree, with distinction, in Agricultural Economics from the University of Minnesota.  On December 4, 1948 he was united in marriage to Roselle Jacobson in Madison, MN.  They lived and farmed in Lac Qui Parle County for many years before moving to the Montevideo area in 1960, where John served as county supervisor for the USDA – Farmers Home Administration until his retirement.  John was an avid gardener and in retirement, achieved Master Gardener status.  He also enjoyed traveling to Sweden to visit the birthplace of his mother, to Seattle for a family reunion and to Alaska.

He is survived and will be missed by daughter Kathryn J. Carlson and husband Kurt Carlson of Mendota Heights, MN; sons John R. Schulz and wife Miriam Rykken and Paul D. Schulz and wife Julie Olin Schulz of St. Paul, MN ; grandsons Tyler An and Tristin Binh. a  sister Dorothy Oertli of Joseph, OR, and brothers Merlin (Betty) Schulz of Seattle, WA and Harry (Betty) Schulz of Madison, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents,  his wife Roselle in 1997 and by a sister and brother, Marilyn and Roland.
