John Smith, formerly of Montevideo, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Tracy at the age of 85.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 2865 269th Avenue in Marshall, MN.
John Allen Smith was born November 10, 1931 in Dodgeville, WI the son of John Hartland Smith and Crystal Lucille Rule Smith. He married Mary Louise Williams on October 2, 1976 in Wadena, MN. They traveled to many areas and finally settled in Montevideo in the early 1980's. John operated a truck farming business for many years and later in life delivered newspapers. He continued to work up until his declining health required him to need additional care.
He was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses at an early age and he loved teaching people the Bible and giving them a hope for the future.
John was a man who loved food and associating with friends and family . He remained happy and content until his death.
He is survived by a nephew, Jim U'ren of Dodgeville, WI; a niece, Glenda Clyde of Cornell, WA; a sister-in-law, Nora McLeod of Palmetto, FL; as well as many great nieces and nephews and many friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Mary Louise; a sister, Genevieve U'Ren; and a brother-in-law, Tom U'Ren.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnessed in Marshall.
