Jon Mitlyng

Jon Mitlyng, of Montevideo, died Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne at the age of 76.

Memorial services for Jon and Marion will be held on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter.  Rev. Matt Danielson will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Jon David Mitlyng age 76, of Montevideo, MN, passed away April 2, 2020 at the Minnesota Veterans Home of Luverne. was born on July 25, 1943 to Arnold D. Mitlyng and Agnes T. (Belsaas) Mitlyng in Montevideo, MN, and was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter all of his life. He graduated from Montevideo High School in the class of 1961. After graduating high school, he joined the US Navy and served for four years.

Jon and Marion were married April 5, 1964 at Rosewood Methodist Church of Montevideo. They moved to Santa Barbara, CA where Jon was a foreman at plastics and bottling factory. In 1975 Jon and Marion returned to Montevideo to farm his family’s farm. He was also a grain dealer, a commercial driver, a certified diesel mechanic, and a certified welder who made many custom pieces of equipment for himself and others. Some of Jon’s hobbies were fishing, hunting, traveling, golfing, and visiting with family and friends. To his grandchildren, visiting children, and a great number of nieces and nephews (known as Uncle Jon) he was always playful and rambunctious creating a large commotion of laughing children. Jon was also a member of VFW Post 380.

Jon and Marion had three children: Lance, Matthew, David, and considered their nephews Doug Jr and Cory Maus as sons.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents Arnold D. Mitlyng (Father), Agnes T. Mitlyng (Mother), Judy M. Marshall (Sister), Lance D. Mitlyng (Son stillborn).

Jon is survived by his wife Marion D. Mitlyng (Wife) Clara City, MN; Elizabeth A. (Paul) Gustafson (Sister) Ely, MN; Matthew (Anita) Mitlyng (Son) Anoka, MN; David (Tristie) Mitlyng (Son) Denver, CO., five grandchildren Alicia, Demie, Andrew, James, and Gregory; nine great grandchildren. And numerous extended family and friends.
