As a young child, Jo moved with her parents to Bellingham, attending school through the eighth grade. She then moved to Madison. On August 17, 1936, in Madison, MN, she was united in marriage to Raymond A. Daniels of Revillo, SD. They first made their home in Marietta, where their children, Darlene and Thomas, were born. In 1949, they moved to Dawson where Ray was a 'jobber' for Standard Oil of Indiana and Jo was the bookkeeper, as well as a homemaker. After Ray died, Jo continued to live in Dawson. She enjoyed her family and friends, walking daily, twice a week casino trips, as well as her twice a day coffee klutch, where much was discussed. She was also active at St. James Catholic Church, where she made many friend over the years with Dawsonians, as well as the many clergy who came to Dawson. She enjoyed selling raffle books (not individual tickets) for the Fall Festival. Some things that the family will always remember are: * "Are there any (FAMOUS) caramel rolls?" * "Could you make some sandwiches to take with us fishing?" * Those awesome canned cherries and pears. At Christmas time we received our own jar with a "Ben Franklin coupon" attached! * "Would you like some cranberries, have you ever tried them?" "They're delicious." * Going to "Papa and Grammy's" house... * At the 2009 Memorial Day Program in Dawson, she was mentioned as the last living Gold Star Mother in Dawson. May there be no more God Star Moms in Dawson or anywhere. On January 31, 2008, due to health complications, Jo entered the Johnson Memorial Home and died there on Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at the age of 91 years, 11 months and 25 days. Survivors include her daughter, Darlene (Tom) Bendel of Fountain Hills, AZ; two grandchildren: Timothy T. (Shari) Bendel of Prior Lake, MN, and Kristi Bendel-Spaulding (partner, Deb Spaulding) of Gilbert, AZ: 5 great-grandchildren: Nicholas T. and Elizabeth A. Bendel and Anthony, Garrett and J.P. Spaulding; and many nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Thomas R. Daniels on February 20, 1969; husband, Ray on December 26, 2001; and siblings: Leona Hallaway in 1938, Edward in 1983, George in 1990, and Paul in 2002. Jo was a fabulous grandmother who will be missed. She was very proud of Dawson, the place she called home and seldom left.
