Josie Riss of Dawson died on Monday, May 13, 2024 at Johnson Memorial Care Center at the age of 103.

Josie Mabel Riss was born to Alfred and Jenny (Conner) Muller on the family farm in Lac qui Parle County on April 4, 1921. Josie attended school in Dawson until the 8th grade. Josie married Wendell Earl Riss on August 1, 1952 at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson. She began waitressing in 1942 and worked as a waitress for 27 years at the American Café and the City Café in Dawson. In 1969 she started working as the dietician in the kitchen at the Dawson Hospital. She retired in 1978 to care for Wendell. Wendell passed away on December 3, 1981.
Josie enjoyed many hobbies in her life including bingo, dancing, and shopping. Wendall and Josie enjoyed traveling to Portland Oregon to visit friends and family. After moving to Johnson Memorial Care Center she participated in bingo, Friday afternoon club, listening to her radio and many other activities. Josie also was a county music and old time music fan and particularly liked the “Lawrence Welk” program. Above all, Josie’s faith was important to her and she was a believer in God and his son Jesus Christ.
Josie is survived by her brother, Orville Miller, Clarkfield, MN; nephews: Wayne, Larry, Gary and Michael.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Wendall; brother Arthur Miller, sister, Isabelle (Raymond) Anderson and sister-in-law, Ardis Miller.
