Joyce Tengwall, of Maynard, died on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar at the age of 81. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at Maynard Lutheran Church in Maynard with Rev. Kathy Skoglund officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Friday with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. at the Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Joyce Mae (Fokken) Tengwall was born on November 4, 1932 in Kandiyohi, MN to Meinert and Johanna (Metlerkamp) Fokken. She was baptized, attended Sunday School and made Confession of Faith in the Bunde Christian Reformed Church in Bunde and attended schools in Maynard. Joyce worked at the Nest Lake Bait and Boat Resort, where she met David Tengwall. They were married on August 18, 1950 at the Crow River Lutheran Church parsonage in New London, MN. They moved to Maynard and made that their home. Joyce was a homemaker and worked at Budger’s Dinner House and at the Clara City Nursing Home until she retired in 1995. She was a member of the Maynard Lutheran Church and was active in women’s groups. Joyce enjoyed camping, baking, playing cards, visiting with people and always making sure that no one would go away hungry. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by five children: Marilyn Fountain of Maple Grove, MN; John (and Charlene) Tengwall of Champaign, IL; Marsha (and Victor) Plante of Maynard; Mary (and Bill) Kneisl of Maynard and Jim (and Laurie) Tengwall of Sioux Falls, SD; ten grandchildren: Sarah (and Aaron), Jeremy (and Lana), Jamie (and Clara), Angela, Joseph (and Reese), Wyatt, Kayla, Allison, Chantel and Alex; three great grandchildren: Madilynne, Monica, and Reagan; a sister, Alyce Arends of Maynard; a sister-in-law, Caroline Fokken of Edina; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband David in 2013; two brothers: Ervin and Nan Fokken and by a sister, Annie Brouwer.
