Judell Kolstad

September 30, 1919 — December 4, 2007

Judell Kolstad, of Appleton and formerly of Milan, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at the Appleton Nursing Home at the age of 88. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, December 7, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. at the Big Bend Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Kubly officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday afternoon and evening with the family being present from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Judell (Thompson) Kolstad was born on September 30, 1919 in Big Bend Township of Chippewa County, MN to Ole and Johannah (Aarseth) Thompson. She was baptized and confirmed at Big Bend Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. On September 5, 1941 she was united in marriage to Raymond Kolstad in Benson, MN. They farmed for many years in Swift and Chippewa Counties before retiring and moving into Milan in 1983. She moved to Appleton, MN in September of 2007. She was a member of Big Bend Lutheran Church and had been a Sunday School teacher. She was also a member of homemakers and the Big Bend Barn Dance Gang. Her interests included doing yard work, flower gardening, quilting, embroidery and especially her family and their activities. She is survived by three children: Yvonne Andrews and her husband Allen of Watson, MN, Arlen Kolstad of St. James City, FL and Julie Swenson of Sartell, MN; six grandchildren: Michele Skogrand and her husband Wayne, Michael Andrews, Heather Kolstad, Erika Kolstad, Christopher Swenson, Stephanie Swenson; two great-grandchildren: Andrew and Dusten Skogrand; a brother, Arnold Thompson of Litchfield, MN; three sisters: Ruby Torgerson of Appleton, MN, Elnora Jorgenson of Marshall, MN and Mildred Blom of Montevideo, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Raymond in 2003; and three brothers: Thorfin, Rudy and Henry Thompson.
