Memorials can be made to the Mel Dove Scholarship Fund at Mankato State University established for students of international study or the Carl Anderson Scholarship at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. Judith Linnea (Anderson) Dove was born on April 13, 1921 in St. James, MN to Hilma and Carl Anderson, the youngest of ten children. She was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James, MN and graduated from St. James High School in 1939. She also attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN, graduating in 1943. While at Gustavus, her skills with the English language led her to become the editor of the Gustavian Weekly and her charm, wit, and beauty made her an easy selection of the student body to be homecoming queen her senior year. Following her graduation, Judy taught at Chaska High School and the following year at LeSueur High School in MN. In 1945 she was united in marriage to Melvin Dove at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Canby, MN. The Doves moved to Pensacola, Florida where Mel was a naval aviator in World War II. Following the war, the Doves lived in Milan, MN, where Mel owned and operated the Dove Oil Company and was the mayor of Milan for nearly two decades. Judy taught English at the Milan High School until they became parents of their son Richard Melvin and daughter Linnea Elizabeth. In 1968, the Doves moved to Owatonna, MN, where Mel served as Vice-President of International Trade for the Gandy Company and Judy was a 10th grade English teacher at the Owatonna High School for 18 years. It was during this time she had the pleasure of sending her future son-in-law to the vice-principal's office. In 1986, the Doves fulfilled a dream to retire in their new home built in Starbuck, MN on Lake Minnewaska, where they became members of Fron Lutheran Church of Starbuck. Judy loved to travel including trips with Mel to Scandinavia, South Africa, Rome, Israel (Kabutz Beta Shita), Tel Aviv, Haifa, Jerusalem, and Moscow. After Mel's death, she visited her daughter and family who lived in Taiwan, then Malaysia, and also Japan. Earlier, she spent visits in Santa Barbara, CA visiting her son and grandsons. Judy loved to cook and bake for others and her door was always open to share a cup of coffee with friends and neighbors. She was kind and generous and gave all of herself to the benefit of others and especially to the family she loved so dearly. It is comforting to us knowing that she is now home with our Lord after so many years of serving others. She is survived by her daughter Linnea and husband Ron Spitzack of Austin, TX and their children Capt. Cole Spitzack (Clarksville, TN), Kalee Spitzack (Dallas, TX), and Kendra Spitzack (Austin, TX); her grandsons, Michael and Christopher Dove who reside in Ocala, Florida; a great grandchild, Addison Spitzack (Clarksville, TN) and a sister, Mae Enfield of Minneapolis, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Mel in 1987; son Richard Dove, six brothers and two sisters.
