Julein Gilbertson, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 88. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Jevnaker Lutheran Church with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Julein Orlando Gilbertson was born on June 28, 1920 in Mandt Township, Chippewa County, MN, the son of Samuel and Alice (Olson) Gilbertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church and attended rural schools. Julein served in the US Army during WW II. He was united in marriage with Cora Saue October 20, 1946 at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. Julein farmed, worked at Cenex and Deep Rock gas station, the Media Center, and was Park Foreman for the City of Montevideo. He was a lifelong and active member of Jevnaker Lutheran Church where he was a Council member and Sunday School teacher. He also served on the District 11 school board and was a member of VFW Post 380 in Montevideo. Julein enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Cora; two children: Patricia Taatjes and her husband John and Gary Gilbertson and his wife Joann, all of Willmar, MN; three grandchildren: Jennifer Simms, Robert Lewison, and Ryan Lewison; and four great-grandchildren: Matthew, Teryn, Blake, and Jay. Preceding him in death were his parents.
