Julene Howard, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, April 20, 2000 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 61.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, April 25, 2000 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Michael Briggs officiating. Burial will be in the Terrace Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Julene Ellen (Groothuis) Howard was born on November 18, 1938 in Chippewa County, MN to William and Marie (Uttermark) Groothuis. She was baptized on Jan. 29, 1939 and confirmed on April 6, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City, MN. She grew up on a farm near Clara City and moved to a farm near Montevideo when she was a teenager, graduating from Montevideo High School in 1956. On November 28, 1958 she was united in marriage to Marvin (Pete) Howard at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clara City. She has lived her married life in Montevideo and worked for over 13 years at Innovex. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagle’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, camping, fishing, reading and being with her grandchildren.
Julene is survived by her husband, Marvin “Pete” Howard; two daughters: Lori Schmaedeka and her husband James of Clara City, MN and Angela Quistad and her husband Gary of Andover, MN; four grandchildren: Kayla and Joshua Schmaedeka and Amanda and Briana Quistad; two brothers: Leo Groothuis of Fargo, ND and Bob (JoAnn) Groothuis of Minneapolis, MN; six sisters: Mary (Hank) Kawell of Wheaton, IL, Eleanor (Phillip) Stager of Clara City, MN, Lola (Russell) Kranz of Montevideo, MN, Arleen Bussian of West Salem, WI, Carol Groothuis of Minneapolis, MN, and Ednabelle Kuehl of Moorhead, MN; one brother-in-law, Charles Kranz of Montevideo; and by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lyle Groothuis; one sister, Phyllis Kranz; one sister-in-law, Gladys Groothuis; and two brothers-in-law: Duane Kuehl and Dick Bussian.
