Julian Evan Skonard

Julian Skonard, of Montevideo, died on Friday, October 2, 1998 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, October 8, 1998 at 1:30 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church of rural Watson, MN with Rev. Larry Olson officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Julian Evan Skonard was born on September 22, 1908 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa Co., MN to John and Sina (Folkestad) Skonard.  He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church and grew up in rural Montevideo.  He attended rural schools and the Morris Ag School.  On July 3, 1935 he was united in marriage to Esther Huseby in Watertown, SD, after which he lived in Watson, MN.  He was a lifelong farmer and an active lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and served on it’s church council.  He was a charter member of the Watson Lions Club, a member of the Watson Fire Department, served on the village council and served on the school board.  He lived at Brookside Manor in Montevideo for about 10 years and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo for the past 2 years.  He was a great Dad and a good, stoic Norwegian.

He is survived by daughters - Gail Schultz and her husband Ronald of Montevideo; Judith Winge and her husband Lee of Montevideo; Laurie Denbrook and her husband Roger of Waconia, MN; and Melanie Paavola and her husband Bob of Hoyt Lakes, MN; a son - John Skonard and his wife Diane of Montevideo; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a sister - Irene Skonord of Montevideo and a niece - Faye Jackson of Brooklyn Center, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Esther in 1986, a brother - Bob Skonard and a sister - Margaret Vadnais.
