June Rebecca Baxter

June Baxter, of Dawson, died Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday.

June Rebecca Zimmerman was born May 15, 1930 in Elm Creek, NE to Emil and Mabel (Brouhard) Zimmerman.  She was baptized into the Seventh Day Church in the river.  June attended and graduated from Holbrook High School.  She was united in marriage to Leslie Baxter Jr. on July 17, 1946 in Norton, KS.  Together they had three children. They made their home in Nebraska, Arizona, California, Colorado and South Dakota.  June moved to Minnesota in 1971 where she lived for the remainder of her life.  She worked much of her life in the hospitality industry, and even owned her own cafés in Sioux Falls and Marietta.  June also worked with a company building grain bins around the United States where she cooked meals and did bookwork.  She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, gardening, canning, hanging wallpaper, cooking, and baking.  June also had a great love for music and played in various bands.

June is survived by her children, Donald (Linda) Baxter of Glenvil, NE, David (Laurie) Baxter of Lincoln, NE, and Debra (Mike) Hanen of Montevideo; grandchildren, Alan (Heather) Baxter, Jayne (Brad) Hinrichs, Bryan Baxter, Becky (Jared) McLean, Jason Williamson and Ashley (Josh) Fultz; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Dylan Baxter, Maia McLean, Madison, Maycie and Landon Williamson, Wylie Wilson, Jackson and Maverick Fultz, and Atley VanEmmerik; siblings, Gwen Eggers, Curtis Zimmerman, and Clarence Zimmerman; and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; great-grandson, Carter Williamson; sister, Donna; sisters-in-law, JoAnn, and Tess; and brother-in-law, Robert.
