Karen Thompson, of Milan, died Thursday, August 10, 2023 at Appleton Care Center at the age of 81.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00AM Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo. Rev. Kristine Isder will officiate and interment will be at Kviteseid Lutheran-Milan Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Karen Mae Thompson was born on May 8, 1942 in Iola Wisconsin to Rev. Oliver and Thelma (Chelgren) Thompson. She attended and graduated from Kerkhoven High School. Karen was a nanny for a family in Minneapolis for 1960 to 1993. She also served as a camp counselor at Camp Koronis for a number of years and as a caregiver for her family.
Karen was a member of the Caregiver Support Group and was the Red Cross Blood Drive Coordinator. She enjoyed photography, gardening, and baking. Karen participated in the Milan musical “This Land Is Milan” in 2017 and was a supporter of the Milan Village Arts School. She was recognized with the William Thompson Citizenship Award and for a time served as Milan’s “Assistant Mayor”. Everyone knew Karen.
Karen is survived by her nephews: Steve (Clare Lyons0 Berg, Greg (Sherry) Berg; niece-in-law, Suzanne Berg; two grandnephews; two grandnieces; one great-grandnephew, one great-grandniece as well as extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Lorraine (Roger) Berg, Mary Ruth Thompson; two sisters in infancy; nephew, Gary Berg; and great-niece Caitlin Berg.
