Karen (Degriselles) Volk

May 7, 1947 — May 2, 2012

Karen Volk, of Duluth, MN and formerly of Dawson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Bayshore Lutheran Nursing Home in Duluth at the age of 64.

Visitation: Monday, May 7, from 4-6:00 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home.

Memorial services:Tuesday, May 8, at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  Rev. Herb Rotunda officiated and organist, Florence Gebur accompanied the congregation in  singing of  "Christ Is Alive", "Spirit Of God, Descend Upon My Heart" and "Amazing Grace."  Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.

A second memorial service: Wednesday, May 9, at 2:30 PM, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Superior, Wisconsin.  Pastor Sarah Kerkes officiated the service

Karen Sue (DeGriselles) Volk was born May 7, 1947 at Spirit Lake, IA the daughter of John and Donna Belle (Burnside) DeGriselles.  She graduated from Dawson High School in 1965.  Karen was united in marriage with Lowell Volk September 14, 1966 at First Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  She moved to Duluth, MN in 1979 and attended nursing school at St. Luke’s.  She graduated as an RN in 1982 and worked as an RN at Superior Memorial Hospital from 1982-2001.  Karen moved to Dawson to work at Johnson Memorial Home from 2001-2006 which allowed her to care for her mother in the last year of her life.  In 2006, she retired because of back issues.  In 2009, she moved back to Superior, WI to be closer to her grandchildren.  Her grandpa Burnside taught her to read at the age of 3 and she had been an avid reader ever since.  She enjoyed country line dancing, crocheting, and knitting.

She is survived by her children: Lowell (Maria) Volk, Jr. of Martinez, CA and Kathleen (Joel)  Murashie of Superior, WI; five grandchildren: Andrew, James, Brian, Christian, and Marissa;  one sister, Melva (Ron) Larson of Dawson, MN; a brother-in-law, Garney Jager of Dawson, MN; a niece, Nichole (Daren) Swenson and their children, Alex and Aiden; and a nephew, Justin (Marilee) Jager and their daughter, Helen.

Preceding her in death were her parents and a sister, Nancy Jager.
