Kathy Schacherer, of Dawson, died on Monday, September 28, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud at the age of 62. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, on Friday, October 2, 2009, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Madison. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 PM at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Kathryn Ann Schacherer was born on January 17, 1947, the daughter of Howard and Mary (Goedert) Nelson, the second of four children. She attended school at St. Michael's Parochial School in Madison through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from Madison High School in 1965. She went on to work at the state hospital in Willmar until 1967, when she was united in marriage to Michael Schacherer. They moved to Germany where he was stationed in the US Army. In 1968, they returned to the Dawson area, where Kathy worked for the judicial system of Lac Qui Parle County. For over 25 years, she had been working at the Tollefson Law Office in Dawson. She was active in several service organizations, including the Business and Professional Women (as president), and the VFW Auxiliary and Legion Auxiliary of Dawson and Madison. She loved reading, quilting, painting and sewing and was a proud grandmother of Luke, Beau, Gunnar and Hendrick. Kathy died on Monday afternoon, September 28, 2009, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN, at the age of 62 years, 8 months and 11 days. Kathy is survived by her husband, Mike; son, Marshall (Tammy) Schacherer of Dawson; daughters: Angela (Robert) Hegadorn of Bryn Mawr, PA, and Chantel (Ryan) Hicks of Duluth; 4 grandchildren: Luke and Beau Schacherer and Gunnar and Hendrick Hicks; mother, Mary Nelson of Madison; 3 brothers: Greg (Dorothy) Nelson of Fargo, ND, Mark (Pamela) Nelson of Finley, ND, and Ted (Michelle) Nelson of Madison; other family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard Nelson.
