Kathy Hogrefe

Kathy Hogrefe died peacefully on Friday, December 29, 2023 in her home surrounded by her children at the age of 80.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Watson.  Rev. Linda Estling will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 3 from 5-7:00 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo with a prayer service at 6:30.  There will also be visitation for one hour before the service at the church.

Kathleen Doreen (Russell) Hogrefe was born June 11, 1943, in St. Cloud, MN, the daughter of Kenneth and Doreen (Pfannenstein) Russell. In 1961 Kathy graduated from St. Cloud Tech. Kathy was united in marriage with Marvin Hogrefe January 26, 1963, in St. Cloud. They lived in Grove City and Litchfield before moving to their farm in Watson, MN in 1974 where they finished raising their family.  Over the years Kathy worked at Jennie O, Carlson Doll Factory, Innovex, Western Printers, and lastly retiring from Luther Haven after over 10 years. Kathy enjoyed her gardening, canning, and reading, as well as visiting with neighbors, friends, and family, and watching Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, and of course her love of the Hallmark Channel. Her children fondly remember the fresh baked bread and caramel rolls that would get made almost every Sunday. She was always the first one up and the last one to bed. Always making sure everyone and everything was taken care of.  Kathy was the heart of her home and the one thing that gave her the most joy in life was her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by four children: J.D. (Amy) Hogrefe of Montevideo, MN;  Jeff Hogrefe of Holloway, MN; Jodi (Jeremy) Gades of Holloway, MN and Julie (Nathan Johnson) Hogrefe of Watson, MN;  13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren;  three brothers: Tim (Lynell) Russell of St. Cloud, MN;  Richard (JoLinda) Russell of Artemus, KY and Kenneth (Margaret) Russell of St. Cloud, MN; four sisters: Susan Alexander of St. Joseph, Colleen Reiter of St. Augustus, Judy (Allen) Holasek of Green Isle, MN, and Ceily Sabrowsky of Cold Spring, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Marvin in 2014; a brother, LaMonte Russell; a sister, Carol Russell; and 2 brothers-in-law: Scott Alexander and Luke Reiter.
